It will make its return to the Olympics for the first time since Beijing 2008.

The host country may also select up to five ‘additional’ sports for inclusion in its edition of the Games – these are known as the Organising Committee’s choice or “OCOG pick”. For Tokyo 2020 these sports were Baseball / Softball , Karate , Skateboarding and Surfing .

The Tokyo Olympics in 2024 will feature 33 sports. This is one more sport than the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The new sport for the Tokyo Olympics is baseball/softball. These two sports were last in the Summer Olympics in 2008.
