On May 7, 2008, NBC Universal was granted an 18-month waiver by the Federal Communications Commission to carry the channel as part of its basic tier on Comcast systems after TWI changed hands from News Corporation to Comcast under new ownership rules that allowed only one cable sports network per company.[9][10][11] On January 28, 2011,[12] Comcast finally removed The Golf Channel from its standard lineup in most markets where it was still carried as part of victorylap consisting mostly of networks that were acquired by NBC Universal in January 2011 but had not been part of the company’s initial carriage victorylap proposal submitted to the FCC in July 2010. Most providers offer it right alongside fellow sports networks ESPN and Fox Sports 1.[13][14]
