What Size Are Sports Cards?

Sports cards are a great way to collect your favorite players and teams, but what size should you get? Here’s a look at the most popular sizes and some things to consider when making your purchase.

Standard Size

The standard size for a sports card is 2.5 inches wide by 3.5 inches tall. This is the size for baseball cards, basketball cards, football cards, and hockey cards. Most trading cards from Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, and Yu-Gi-Oh! are also this size.

Mini Size

Mini cards are the smallest sports cards. They measure 2.5” x 3.5”, which is the same size as a trading card, but they have rounded corners. Mini cards were popular in the early days of sports card collecting but they have fallen out of favor in recent years. Because they are so small, mini cards are very difficult to find in mint condition.

Jumbo Size

Jumbo size is the largest common size for sports cards. These cards measure 3-1/4″ wide x 4-3/8″ tall. The large surface area of jumbo cards makes them ideal for displaying autographs, meaning they are often more valuable than their regular or mini counterparts.

Oversized

Oversized cards are definitely not standard. In general, they measure about 3-1/2″ wide x 4-1/2″ tall or larger. Some manufacturers make jumbo size cards that are closer to 6″ wide x 8″ tall. These miniature posters of your favorite players come in two basic types – those measuring about 2-1/2″ wide by 3-1/2″ tall and those a little bit larger at 2-11/16″ wide x 3-3/4″ tall. Chances are you’ve seen these on the racks at your local card shop or hobby store before – they’re easy to spot because of their atypical dimensions.
