Ball State Cardinals football team represents Ball State University in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision college football. The Cardinals compete in the Mid-American Conference as a member of the West Division. The Cardinals have played their home games at Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, Indiana since 1957. Ball State has appeared in six bowl games, including the 1949 Digital Liberty Bowl, which is the program’s only bowl game victory. They are coached by Mike Neu, who was hired on December 5, 2015.

The sport began to gain popularity in the 1920s, thanks in part to the efforts of Senda Berenson Abbott, who is widely considered to be the inventor of women’s basketball. In 1971, the first women’s collegiate basketball tournament was held, with eight teams competing for the title.
