Baseball

Rowing was first introduced to Cuba during the country’s occupation by the United States at the start of the 20th century. The first Cuban national rowing championships were held in 1909. Clubs were established in Havana and Matanzas. Rowing quickly became popular, with races being held regularly on the canals of Havana.
Sailing
Cuba has been successful in Olympic sailing competitions, winning five medals in total. Cuban sailor José María Ponce de León won the nation’s first gold medal in the Star class event at the 1980 Summer Olympics, and added a silver medal in the same event at the 1988 Summer Olympics. De Leon’s brother, servio Ponce de León, earned Cuba’s only other sailing medal to date, a bronze in the Star class event at the 1984 Summer Olympics.

The team is particularly well known for its success in the lighter weight divisions, with Cuban boxers winning gold medals in the featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight divisions at the Olympic Games.
Cuban national soccer team
The Cuban national soccer team is the national team of Cuba and is controlled by the Asociación de Fútbol de Cuba. They are a member of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football and currently ranked 84th in the world by FIFA. The team’s best achievement was qualifying for the 1938 FIFA World Cup in France.
The Cuban national team has appeared in seven FIFA World Cups, but has only qualified for one – the 1938 tournament. They have, however, qualified for four CONCACAF Gold Cups. The team played its first ever international match on 28 December 1908 against neighbouring country Haiti, which they defeated 9–0; this marked theirEntry into FIFA in 1945.
