The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, and commonly referred to as Tokyo 2020, is an upcoming international multi-sport event scheduled to be held from 24 July to 9 August 2020 in Tokyo, Japan. Originally due to take place in 1940, it was rescheduled for 1944 due to the outbreak of World War II; it was then cancelled in 1946. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) selected Tokyo as the host city during the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires on 7 September 2013.

List of Olympic sports

There are a total of 33 sports on the program for the 2020 Summer Olympics. This is the first time that skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing will be featured as Olympic sports. Baseball and softball, which were previously dropped from the program, will also make a return. Here is the complete list of Olympic sports for 2020.

The Summer Olympics, also known as the Games of the Olympiad, are a major international multi-sport event normally held once every four years. The games are currently regulated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The held every four years like the Winter Olympics. The Summer and Winter Games were originally held in the same year, but as the popularity of the Summer Olympics grew, the IOC decided to stagger them so that they take place two years apart. The last Summer Olympics were held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016, and the next one will be in Tokyo, Japan in 2020.

Winter Olympics

The 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from February 9-25. Here is the list of sports that will be contested at the Winter Olympics this year:

Alpine Skiing
-Super giant slalom (Super-G)
-Giant slalom (GS)

-Cross-country skiing and rifle shooting

-Two or four person sleds down an icy track

Cross-Country Skiing
-Skiers race each other over a set course of varying distances

-A team sport played on ice with heavy stones and brooms

The 2020 Olympic games will feature 33 sports and a total of 50 disciplines. This is an increase of five sports from the 2016 Summer Olympics. New sports debuting at the 2020 Olympics include baseball/softball, karate, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing.

There are a total of 12 Olympic events that will be contested in Tokyo. Baseball and softball will each have two events, one for each gender. The other new sports debuting in 2020 will each have one event each for both genders. These are karate, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing.
