Introduction

The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, and commonly referred to as Tokyo 2020, is an upcoming international multi-sport event scheduled to be held from 24 July to 9 August 2020 in Tokyo, Japan. Originally due to take place in 1940, it was rescheduled for 1944 due to the outbreak of World War II; it was then cancelled in 1946. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) selected Tokyo as the host city during the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires on 7 September 2013.

There are a total of 33 sports on the program for the 2020 Summer Olympics. This is the first time that skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing will be featured as Olympic sports. The 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from February 9-25. Here is the list of sports that will be contested at the Winter Olympics this year:

The 2020 Olympic games will feature 33 sports and a total of 50 disciplines. This is an increase of five sports from the 2016 Summer Olympics. New sports debuting at the 2020 Olympics include baseball/softball, karate, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing.

There are a total of 12 Olympic events that will be contested in Tokyo. Baseball and softball will each have two events, one for each gender. The other new sports debuting in 2020 will each have one event each for both genders. These are karate, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing.
