With the recent Supreme Court ruling, it is now up to individual states whether or not to allow sports betting within their borders. There are currently a handful of states that have casinos that offer sports betting, and more are expected to join in the near future. Here is a list of the states that currently have casinos with sports betting:
Nevada was the first state to legalize sports betting after the Supreme Court overturned a federal ban in 2018. Sports betting is now live in Nevada at physical sportsbooks and online through mobile apps. Nevada’s gambling laws are also very permissive, so you’ll find a wide variety of casino games and poker rooms in the state.
New Jersey has long been a hotbed for gambling, and that includes sports betting. The Garden State was one of the first to jump on the legal sports betting bandwagon after the Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018.
Sports betting in New Jersey is overseen by the state’s Division of Gaming Enforcement. There are currently nine casinos with sports betting operations up and running in Atlantic City, with more expected to launch in the near future. Pennsylvania’s sports betting landscape is currently undergoing a major transformation. While there are a number of casinos with sports betting in Pennsylvania, the state is currently in the process of legalizing online and mobile sports betting. This process is expected to be complete by the end of 2019, at which point Pennsylvania will become one of the most robust and competitive sports betting markets in the country.
Rhode Island was one of the first states to legalize sports betting after the Supreme Court ruling in 2018. The state offers sports betting at its two commercial casinos, as well as online and through mobile apps.
West Virginia is one of the states with casinos that offer sports betting. The state has five casinos that offer sports betting, and all of them are located in the city of Charles Town. As of May 2019, eight states have legalized sports betting (Nevada, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Mississippi and Arkansas) and more are expected to follow suit in the near future.
