States Where Online Sports Gambling Is Legal

Nevada
In Nevada, online sports gambling is legal. There are a number of online sportsbooks that are based in the state, and they offer a wide variety of betting options for residents and visitors.

New Jersey
In May 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a federal law that had banned commercial sports betting in most states. This ruling clears the way for states to legalize and regulate sports betting, including online sports gambling.
As of October 2019, online sports gambling is legal in the following states: Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
In addition to these states where online sports gambling is currently legal, several other states have legalized sports betting but have not yet launched their operations. These states include Arkansas (launching in 2019), North Carolina (2020), Tennessee (2020) and Washington D.C. (launching in 2020).
Pennsylvania
In Pennsylvania, online gambling is legal and regulated. The state offers a number of different types of gambling, including sports betting, casino games, lottery, and horse racing. Pennsylvania is one of the few states in the US that has legal online gambling.
Pennsylvania offers a number of different ways to gamble online. Sports betting is available through a number of different providers, including the Pennsylvania Lottery. Casino games are also available through a number of different providers. The Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission offers legal online horse betting. And the Pennsylvania lottery offers legal online lottery games.
Pennsylvania has a number of different laws governing online gambling. Sports betting is only available to residents of the state who are 21 years of age or older. Casino games are only available to residents of the state who are 21 years of age or older. And the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission requires all bettors to be 18 years of age or older.
Rhode Island
In November 2018, Rhode Island passed a law legalizing online sports gambling within the state. The law allows sports betting to take place on mobile devices and at licensed retail locations. In order to place a bet, users must be physically located within the state of Rhode Island.
The Rhode Island Lottery is responsible for regulating sports gambling within the state. The Lottery has contracted with IGT and William Hill to provide sports betting services.
Currently, there are no Rhode Island-based online sportsbooks operational. However, it is expected that this will change in the near future.
West Virginia
West Virginia was the first state to legalize online sports gambling after the Supreme Court overturned the federal ban in 2018. The state lottery commission regulates sports betting in West Virginia. Residents and visitors can place bets on professional and college sporting events through the state’s five licensed casinos: Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack, Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort, Mardi Gras Casino & Resort, The Greenbrier, and Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.
Bets can be placed online or in person at any of the casinos. The casinos each offer mobile betting apps that can be downloaded for iOS or Android devices. Online and mobile betting is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
